Evaluation Question

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
With the group having a dicussion about our media prject we think we have a few techniques that real media products have. We studied thriller films and tried to manipulate some of the angles and editing used with in intense moments in the film. Gareth and I focused on the editing and trying to build tension to have the audiences attention grabbed. Also with Amber and Rebekah creating the sound track to help create a more intense feeling about the opening.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
In all films there is a certain age, gender and maybe social group for the film to be aimed at. The group all came up with possible idea to which our openning sequence is aimed at. We came up with our filmed maybe represented a social group from 12-17 year of age and a mixed gender. It may also represent people who like and enjoy thrillers. It is yet uncertain which social group it is mainly representing.

3. What kind of media institution would distribute your media product and why?
A film franchise would distribute my media product as it is the opening of a film. However, it may also be distributed as a film for television.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this project?
Whilst constructing this project, I have encountered many different types of technology.
For example:

  • The 'dolly', track and tri-pod.
  • The mini camera recorder
  • HD camera recorder
  • MacBooks
  • 'Final Cut' editing program
  • 'GarageBand' music program
  • The internet
For the dolly, I learnt how to connect the tripod and camera with bungee chords and then align the dolly with the track. This was very useful for when we needed to do shots involving the track.
At first we used the mini camcorder to record some dummy footage and check that the shots we planned would work on location. These would all then be recorded using the main HD video camera and proper equipment on the correct location.
In class, we each had our own Macintosh laptop to use during the lesson. This had many useful programs on it such as Garage Band, Final Cut and the internet browser 'Safari'. I learnt how to use the tools on Final cut to be able to edit the footage that we shot. I also used it to edit Foley sounds recorded straight onto the Mac-book.
I used the 'Musical Typing' tool on garage band to create the soundtrack for the project and wrote my own score. Then, using the saved loops and sound effects I added some sound effects to add suspense and to fit in with the action on-screen. This was then layered over the top of the edited footage on Final Cut.

Animatic

Our Animatic that we put together using pictures from the storyboards, titles and our production logo. This helps us to see how it would all look together, when it is completely filmed.
